"Armageddon" is mentioned only once in Scripture, Revelation 16:15-16. It's used to describe the great battle between the nations which have joined together to invade Israel at which point they will be stopped in their tracks by the Lord Jesus and his army of saints. The main Scriptural record of what will occur at Armageddon is that of Ezekiel 38, we've provided explanation along the way.

Ezekiel 38:1-2 "Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him,"

Explanation This is a prophecy noted by Ezekiel, so the LORD is speaking to him directly, giving him a prophecy of what will take place in the future. God identifies a leader (prince) that will be key in the battle. Gog (of the land of Magog), is the word refering to the person who will be the leader of the lands of Rosh, Meschech and Tubal (which are the geographic lands of Russia - See link for futher information). Therefore, Ezekiel is seeing a vision of God prophesying against the leader of Russia.

Ezekiel 38:3-4 "and say, Thus says the Lord GOD: Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meschech, and Tubal. I will turn you around, put hooks into your jaws, and lead you out, with all your army, horses, and horsemen, all splendidly clothed, a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords."

Explanation God makes His position clear by stating clearly that He'll be "against" the leader of Russia. Using graphic language, the prophecy says that Russia is going to be dragged out of it's land with a mighty army (note that only military that Ezekiel would have understood was used, horses, army, horsmen, shields and swords because Ezekiel and readers of the day wouldn't have understood missles, machine guns, jets).

Ezekiel 38:5-6 "Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with shield and helmet; Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops ”many people are with you."

Explanation Here are some nations which are more familiar. Persia, being Iran, Ethiopia and Libya are all to side with the Russians in their warfare. Gomer, being France and the house of Togarmah being Turkey all going with Russia and her leader to lead the battle.

Ezekiel 38:7 "Prepare yourself and be ready, you and all your companies that are gathered about you; and be a guard for them."

Explanation God, speaking to the leader of the Russians, to prepare for major battle and to stay ready. Why? Because God is going to use them in the great battle.
